Philippine TV Reporting Team Kidnapped
BackANCHOR:
One of the Philippines' top TV reporters and her two assistants have been kidnapped. ABS-CBN network said on Wednesday that the team went missing on an island that is a hot spot of Islamic radicals linked to the al Qaeda.
STORY:
The country's largest television network said that broadcast journalist
Ces Drilon and cameramen Jimmy Encarnacion and Angelo Valderama have been kidnapped for ransom on Jolo island.
The crew has been missing since Sunday.
ABS-CBN News announced that it is doing everything it can to help the families of its kidnapped journalists, but it will abide by its policy not to pay ransom.
The network feels that paying ransom would embolden kidnap for ransom groups to abduct other journalists, thus putting more lives at risk.
ABS-CBN did not say who it believed was responsible for the abduction.
But the island of Jolo is used as a base by the Abu Sayyaf radicals, who are notorious for kidnapping for ransom.
[Rowena Paraan, National Union of Journalists in the Philippines]:
"Whatever the abductors stand for, whatever their goals are, there's absolutely no justification for seizing journalists whose sole concern is to seek out the truth and present this as accurately as possible. To them we say: please release Ces, Jimmy, Angelo, and Mr. Dinampo. Seizing them cannot in any way serve your ends and can only bring down condemnation on your heads."
In 2000, the Abu Sayyaf held about 20 people, mostly Western tourists
and Malaysian resort workers from nearby Sipadan island, for about three
months and freed them after more than $10 million U.S. dollars was paid for
their release.

The United States should not support such a PATHETIC & CORRUPT Goverment! The politicians, and social elite live lavish, and opulent lifestyles, while the remaining 85% live in impoverished, and inhumane conditions. You want your sovereignty so bad...stop sticking your hand out to the United States for financial aid! End the blatant corruption, and you could be a self sufficient country with some dignity. I can understand why there are factions in Mindanao, who hate the the Government so much!

When you pay a ransom to the Abu Sayyaf, you are also paying the corrupt AFP Generals who are given a cut by the Abu Sayyaf. Ediborah Yap, Martin Burnham, and several others would be ALIVE TODAY, if it were not for the fact that corruption is "alive and well" in the Philippines. Nothing has changed in the Philippines, even after the departure of Marcos, and Martial Law. Human Right's Violations in the form of Extrajudicial Killings is still used by the Government to keep it's people oppressed!

All I can say about this people who did this damn thing are all sick.! They didn't think that there fellow men might affected on what they done most especially the younger ones. The education might affected and if they act like that sooner no one will go there to offer a help. And one thing, that's why the red cross members been to there place is to HELP not to be KIDNAPPED.
